As was customary during the period, Polo, as a man of wealth –which had been increased considerably by the gold and gems he'd brought back from the Mongol Empire - financed the arming of a ship to aid in combat, serving in the fighting himself. Worse still, they returned to find Venice at war with the Republic of Genoa, a neighboring independent Italian state. And what happens is sandstorms, desert bandits, a smelly camel, strange horoscopes, the emperor of all China, and one very famous explorer. Genealogy of the house of Chinghiz to the end of the 18th century. The book of Marco Polo: book 2 (continued)-4. According to Biography, a vast amount of the family's wealth was also taken from them in Turkey, meaning they arrived back in Venice in 1295 with merely a quarter of what they'd set out with. 5/20/2023 0 Comments Caminar by skila brownOne thing that struck me most was Brown’s ability to create a touching coming-of-age narrative set in such tragic events. MY TWO CENTS: Skila Brown’s debut novel in verse tells the heartbreaking story of Carlos, who is forced from his devastated village and treks up a mountainside to save his grandmother and her neighbors from a similar fate. Will he be in time, and brave enough, to warn them about the soldiers? What will he do then? A novel in verse inspired by actual events during Guatemala’s civil war, Caminar is the moving story of a boy who loses nearly everything before discovering who he really is. Mama tells Carlos to run and hide, then try to find her…Numb and alone, he must join a band of guerillas as they trek to the top of the mountain where Carlos’s abuela lives. The soldiers laugh at the villagers, and before they move on, a neighbor is found dangling from a tree, a sign on his neck: Communist. But Mama tells him not yet–he’s still her quiet moonfaced boy. Today, we celebrate her debut.ĭESCRIPTION FROM THE BOOK JACKET: Carlos knows that when the soldiers arrive with warnings about the Communist rebels, it is time to be a man and defend the village, keep everyone safe. On Monday, we interviewed first-time author Skila Brown about her novel in verse, Caminar. Check out the Q&A for information about her research and writing and her decision to tackle a subject outside her own racial/ethnic experience. 5/20/2023 0 Comments Clickologie by Erin SummerillThanks to ALL these amazing families who, without skipping a beat, couldn't WAIT to participate and model for The goal was/is to bring smiles to pplĪllllllll over the world in a time when we could all use an extra one, or four :):) I messaged my most FAVORITE families in my town and I promised them all that I would keep my 6 - 10 feet distance and that no hugs would be exchanged lol no matter HOW MUCH WE ALL WANTED TO!!!! The current results, coupled with the emerging disposition for progress expressed by police services, offer opportunities to develop tailored and focused interventions and policies to support police officers. Pervasive gender norms appear detrimental for both men and women police officers, as well as the communities they serve. There were six organizing themes identified in relation to the global theme of Gendered Experiences: (1) Discrimination (2) Sexual Harassment (3) Motherhood and Parental Leave (4) Identity (5) Stereotypically Feminine Attributes and (6) Hegemonic Masculinity. Thematic network analysis identified themes related to the experience of policing for both men and women police officers. Police officers ( n = 17 9 women) in Saskatchewan participated in semi-structured interviews. The current study examined the contrast between the experiences of men and women police officers. Indeed, police culture is characterized by hegemonic masculinity, which appears to negatively impact both men and women. Researchers have indicated that the occupational experience of policing differs greatly among men and women. Women police officers report elevated symptoms of mental disorders when compared to men police officers. I blame it on the written letters in the book. I Hate You which I read a few months ago and, if I'm honest, I wasn't all that impressed with. This is my second book by the author, the other being P.S. I learned too late that he kept his past a secret for a reason. But looking back, I never could have imagined all the ways my world would change the moment it collided with his. They say a single moment can change the entire trajectory of your life. None of it mattered because he was the most perfectly imperfect, beautifully tortured soul I'd ever known, and I was besotted, addicted to all the thrilling and wondrous ways he made me feel when we were together. It didn't matter that his heart was wrapped in barbed wire or that he made me promise never to fall for him. It didn't matter that he was emotionally unavailable or that he was exactly the kind of man who would give my father a coronary should I dare to bring him home. We were night and day in every way possible, not an ounce of anything in common, and yet, I wanted him in the worst way. What I got was a broody, enigmatic demigod with an electrifying touch and a mysterious past. 5/19/2023 0 Comments Mine katy evans free read onlineMy insides twist until my lungs feel jammed in my throat as I remember how he tried to pull his respirator off and stop me. His eyes, black and mysterious, looking at me desperately from a hospital bed. And the month I left, he was very, very manic. When he goes manic, he does not remember, sometimes, what he does. He’s not only fucking Remington “Riptide” Tate-he’s bipolar and he swings from one mood spectrum to the next. Remy in his rawest form, intense and manic, as reckless as he will ever be.īecause he’s not normal. I imagine him thrown across a hotel bed while dozens of women pleasure him, his blue eyes-my blue eyes-watching them come apart for him too.Īnd then, then I think that he might not have been blue. In my mind, I see his eyes, the way he watches me come for him. I think of the way he moves, like a predator taking me, when we make love. I don’t want to hit someone, I can barely even stand.Įverything blurs as I turn to stare at Remy’s back. then she starts glancing around as if she wants to hide in a fucking flowerpot! “Brooke,” she whispers, her tone apologetic as she backs up a step. My stomach drops, and I mean, drops, when Diane’s eyes widen, and her face loses all color. 5/19/2023 0 Comments A moveable feast book coverAll books described honestly and accurately.
